Two things struck us about the HK airport.
First, it was almost eerily quiet. No yelling or chaos, but there were lots of people around.
Second, it was amazingly clean. Later we observed that the tunnels and highways were, too. Lots and lots and LOTS of construction going on, so there was that kind of debris behind fences.
We wandered out into the front lobby and immediately noticed some similarities.
Starbucks. McDonalds.
After a few minutes, “Mr. Jackie”, our driver came up holding a sign and confirmed who we were and led us out. I don’t believe he said another word until he got us to the hotel about an hour later. Not sure if that was just his demeanor or a lack of English skills. We weren’t up for chatting, anyhow.
Driving through HK, you eventually reach part that looks much like NYC or Chicago. First floors are commercial, residential and office above in tall buildings. Some VERY tall buildings, all decorated up for the holidays.
We have Christmas Trees, Santa and snowmen. They have sheep and flowers. Same-same.
Staying awake on the ride was a little difficult. Traffic was significant, so there was lots of stopping and waiting. Your brain is also somewhat juxtaposed, because the steering wheel is on the right and they drive “on the wrong side of the road.”
People don’t honk their horns much, though.
