Kowloon Park

We caught the bus and rode it around to the Star Ferry terminal, where we once again boarded an unstable, moving vehicle to be transported.  Short ride, fairly calm seas, so not an issue.  We were going to English High Tea at the Peninsula  Hotel on Kowloon.

The problem was we got there about 12:30, and couldn’t even line up to go in to the 2:00 event until 1:30.  Rather than standing in the hotel lobby – which was nice but let’s face it – it’s a hotel lobby – we opted to walk around a bit.

We had a rudimentary knowledge of the area from the tour the day before, and besides – it’s a big city – if you get really REALLY lost, hail a cab and have them take you back wherever you want to go.

In this case, we walked around the block from the hotel, past the Islamic Mosque and then decided to turn into the Kowloon Park.

We’re not talking NYC’s Central Park here – it’s not nearly that big – but it was a wonderfully quiet respite in the center of a very large city.  The views of nearby big buildings are pretty impressive, too.

One thing we noted – no massive pigeons around.  While that may, in part, be due to some type of pigeon eradication project (although we don’t know that for certain), it may also be due to the fact that there’s a $1,500HK fine (US$193.00, don’t know if court costs are added to that) for feeding them.

That’s a significant disincentive.

After we wandered around for a bit it was time to go back to the hotel to get in line for tea.
