We got back to our hotel late in the afternoon, said goodbye to our guide and went up to get ready to travel early tomorrow morning (7 a.m. ride to the airport!) to Hue (pronounced Hoo-Wee). One of the things we’d decided was that this meant off-loading and mailing back a variety of clothes and things that we found were unnecessary.
Taking 30 pounds out of our luggage helped a lot. You wouldn’t think that things like jeans and T-shirts would weigh so much, but they do. Although we still likely have more than we need in the way of clothes and things (in just a carry on bag), it’s much easier to get the bags zipped and closed at this point, plus the few purchases we’d made have gone on ahead of us and don’t need to be addressed any more.
There is a significant amount of trust in the process, though. You take down the things you want shipped and the lady in the business center weighs them. She then contacts the post office or DHL (depending on how fast you want it there), gets a postage cost based on the weight. You pay that (plus a 30% surcharge to the hotel) and leave the stuff there with them to be boxed up and reach your home eventually.
We had drinks in the “Opera” bar, named such because the windows look out across the street at the Opera House and opted for sandwiches (one ham and cheese, one fried chicken) for supper. A 5:30 get up to be ready to depart meant a fairly early bedtime for us.
